FEMA National Flood Insurance Program
The Town of Fort Myers Beach is committed to updating residents on the Community Rating System (CRS) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) premiums:
What is the NFIP?
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is managed by the FEMA. The NFIP provides flood insurance to property owners, renters, and businesses. The NFIP works with communities required to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations that help mitigate flooding effects. Flood insurance is required for federally insured mortgages on structures in areas designated as a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).
What is the CRS?
The Community Rating System (CRS) is an incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the NFIP. In CRS communities, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk.
