John R. King is a native of Des Moines, Iowa. John grew up working in a small family business, The Donut King.
The business was
begun by his Italian immigrant grandfather Tom as a way to get out of the Iowa Coal Mines. John's dad Ray took over the business when Tom had a heart attack. John, along with his mother Rosemary, ran the business after Ray became ill and later died from cancer. Eventually they closed the 50+ year enterprise.
John then moved into radio, becoming an OnAir personality for a number of stations in the Des Moines area. It is there that John met his best friend and wife, Chris.
After a decade in radio, John transitioned to working for a Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) in numerous customer service departments.
John and Chris had often visited Fort Myers Beach for vacation. In November of 2020 they purchased a condo and became full time residents in April 2021. John became a member of the Island's End Condo Association Board of Directors.
Since joining Town Council, John has taken on new roles and responsibilities:
- Council Liaison to the Town's Marine and Environmental Task Force (MERTF).
- Town representative Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Also serves on Lee County MPO Executive Committee.
- Represents the Town as an Executive Committee member of the South West Florida League of Cities.
- Represents the Town on the Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership (CHNEP).
- Member of the Florida League of Cities Board of Directors
- Vice President of the Southwest Florida League of Cities
John is thrilled to be a part of and serve the great Fort Myers Beach community!
