Sea Turtle Season began on May 1st!Get your amber bulbs and black out curtains ready for Sea Turtle Nesting Season. Not all yellow and red bulbs are made equal - be sure to look for manufacturer specs that call out 560 nanometers (nm) or greater on the box. Black out curtains are best for windows to shield interior lighting, and if you’re under construction, please remind your contractor to turn off the lights at night and put up temporary curtains to block interior lights. Mound House Lecture Series!Join us on Thursday, October 30th at 7pm for a virtual lecture with wildlife biologist Mike Mills from the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. The lecture will be around 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for Q&A at the end. Mike grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and got his B.S. in Wildlife Biology at Southeast Missouri State University and a Master’s in Conservation Biology at the University of South Florida. Mike oversees the wildlife field work in SCCF’s Wildlife and Habitat Management Department. He started the Sanibel Island Bat Project in November 2023 and continues to monitor bat populations on Sanibel today. This talk will show the ongoing work SCCF is conducting on the bat populations of Pine Island Sound. Using acoustic monitoring devices, bat echolocation calls are recorded, and each species is able to be identified from its unique call. Come learn about each species that inhabits these islands and the research being done on them. Join Virtually on October 30, 2025, at 7:00pm using this link: https://fmbgov.zoom.us/j/85302628896?pwd=2I3xDhyHZQ5biYxkh1GmsR4mBIdlEU.1
