[ARCHIVED] Beach Work Construction on Carlos Pointe Beach

truck haul

Town of Fort Myers Beach, FL – Beach Works construction will be occurring on Saturday, February 24, 2024, on the south end of Estero Island at Carlos Pointe Beach. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when in proximity to the construction site and heavy equipment that will be dumping and grading sand in the area.

The Beach Work construction occurring is a part of the Town's Estero Island Truck Haul Project funded by the Florida Department of Emergency Management for the Legislator Appropriated Grant. Beach works in the Carlos Point Beach area are expected to be complete by March 1, 2024. Once Carlos Pointe Beach restoration is complete, the project will continue to build berm segments from the 8000 block to the 7000 block of Estero Boulevard beachfront properties to connect the previously constructed FEMA berms, fill scours, and restore FEMA berms over washed by Hurricane Idalia.

The scope and schedule of beach construction have been reviewed and permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Governors Emergency Order following the devastation of Hurricane Ian. The goal of the project is to restore Fort Myers Beach back to pre-hurricane conditions and to install a berm that will help protect upland properties from future storm surge impacts.
