[ARCHIVED] PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE

Town of Fort Myers Beach, FL – Effective Immediately, boil water notice in place for residents of Town of Fort Myers Beach residing on Primo Dr, and from Denora Blvd to Estrellita Dr. to Big Carlos Pass Bridge.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A water main break serving your area has occurred causing loss of pressure.

Therefore, as a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative bottled water may be issued.

This “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” will remain in effect until the water main has been repaired and two consecutive days of satisfactory bacteriological water samples show that the water is safe to drink. If you have any questions, you may contact the Town of Fort Myers Beach Utilities Department, at 239 – 463 – 9914.

On January 25, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM we were notified by a citizen of a small amount of water bubbling out of the ground at the corner of Shell Mound and Mid Island Dr. The house is not occupied due to hurricane damage.

We proceeded to dig and find out what was causing the leak. We discovered the leak was on the 6-inch water main that helps feed the entire neighborhood. We also found what looked like a previous line repair that did not hold. As we exposed the leak the small amount bubbling out of the ground turned into a major leak on the main.

To stop the water and complete the repairs, we had to close our water line valves on Estero Blvd which feeds the south end of the Island. This caused low or no pressure for the entire south end of the Island from Donora Dr. – south.

We issued a “Code Red” which is our way of informing the citizens of a boil water notice. In addition, we updated our website of the situation.

Attempted repairs were completed at approximately 8:30 PM; however, there was still a very small leak. It was determined that the leak was small enough that we could complete the repairs in the morning, allowing the citizens to continue with their nighttime routines. Then begin to complete the repair starting at 9:00 AM in the morning (1-26-2024), allowing for morning routines.
